Difference Between Air Conditioning and Refrigeration in tabular form

The basic difference between Air Conditioning and Refrigeration is that Air conditioning is a process that takes the thermal energy from the air for making the air cool. The thermal energy flows from a place of higher temperature to a place of lower temperature. On the other hand, refrigeration is a process in which the apparatus supplies thermal energy from one place to a place of higher temperatures.

Both these procedures are based upon the  Carnot cycle’s principle.

Difference Between Air Conditioning and Refrigeration

What is Air Conditioning? (Explained)

Air conditioning is a process of changing the air conditioner with the removal of the heat and moisture and hence to get a more comfortable inner environment. It uses a compressor to concentrate latent heat of a compressible fluid which is then cooled with ambient air in a finned heat exchanger, then decompressed in an evaporator providing the cold temperature. The air conditioners draw the hot air and then cool it by the evaporation process. A conditioner has an indoor as well as an outdoor unit connected with a pipe.

What is Refrigeration? (Explained)

Refrigeration is a cooling process of extracting heat from a lower temperature heat source, a substance or cooling medium, and transferring it to a higher temperature heat sink, probably atmospheric air and surface water, to maintain the temperature of the heat source below that of the surroundings. Refrigerators transfer the thermal energy from one place to a place of higher temperatures. in a refrigerator, internal chemicals as well as the air is supplied to the system or surrounding.

Air Conditioning

Refrigerator

Air conditioning is a process that takes the thermal energy away from the place to keep the air cooler. It is a process of transformation of thermal energy from one place to a place of higher temperatures.
It is used to cool a large area. A refrigerator helps to flow thermal energy against the natural flow of heat.
A refrigerator is a small box made to shelve food and to preserve food. An air conditioner cools down large areas
In an air conditioner, a fan is required. In refrigerators, no fan is required.
The air conditioning system has a circulation system with an objective to project cool air away from the parts. In refrigerators, circulatory systems are designed to preserve coolant in a restricted space.
