About Wagamama

Wagamama is a Japanese casual restaurant and noodle bar chain based in the United Kingdom, United Kingdom. They serve a Japanese-inspired menu of ramen, donburi, and teppanyaki. They have more than 140 locations worldwide.

Wagamama History

Alan Yau founded Wagamama in Bloomsbury, London in 1992. Wagamama is a Japanese term meaning bad boy or wayward child and determined. They opened their restaurant at a time when the restaurant industry was not a good business investment.

Although these times proved crucial for food companies, they caught up and actually grew quite quickly. Apart from the quality dishes they offer, their success is attributed to the restaurant’s unique interior design concept, which has pushed back and revived a very boring industry.

In addition, food prices were also much lower than other restaurants in London at the time. Today, with over 20 years of experience in the industry, they continue the tradition of offering high-quality authentic Japanese cuisine in a unique and modern setting at reasonable prices.

What They’re Famous For?

Wagamama offers a wide variety of Japanese favorites. They are known to have the highest standards when it comes to their ingredients. Here are some of their best-selling dishes:

  • Short Rib Ramen – a hot bowl of fresh noodles in light chicken broth topped with tender USDA Choice short rib on the bone, and garnished with fresh carrots mangetout, red onions, sweet potato, and pea shoots.
  • Yakitori Duck – tasty grilled duck leg seasoned with special Asian sauce served on top of steamed white rice and shredded cucumber, mint coriander, mooli salad, Asian pancakes, and citrus yakitori sauce on the side.
  • Teriyaki Beef Donburi – sticky white rice topped with beef brisket in teriyaki sauce, shredded carrots, pea shoots, and onions, garnished with sesame seeds and served with kimchee on the side.
  • Teriyaki Sirloin Steak Soba – soba noodles in curry oil topped with grilled tender sirloin steak, mangetout, bok choi, red onions, chilies, and bean sprouts in teriyaki sauce and garnished with sesame seeds.
