Ray Diagrams of Concave and Convex Mirrors with Images

Ray Diagrams of Concave and Convex Mirrors travelling parallels to the principle axis passes through the focal point after reflect by the mirror. A ray passes through the Centre of curvatures of the mirror is reflected back along its on path.  Draw the following diagrams in which a ray of light is incident on a concave/convex mirror. show the path of this rays, after reflection in each case.

The image location of the yellow light bulb is the location where all its light intersects after reflecting of the mirror. it is the intersections point of the all reflecting rays.

  • Spherical Mirrors

Concave Mirror Ray Diagrams

The point where the two reflected rays coverages will be the location of the image.

Convex Mirror Ray Diagrams 

  • Center of curvature and focal point both located behind mirror.
  • the image for a convex mirror is always virtual and upright compared to the object.

Called diverging mirror because rays are spared out by the mirror. image is always is virtual and smaller than the object.

Characteristics of Concave Mirrors

  • Light converges at a point. it strikes and reflects back for the reflecting of the concave mirror.
  • The concave mirror is placed very close, a magnified and virtual image is obtained.
  • The image formed by the concave mirror only large or can be real or virtual.

Two mirror shown above are examples of what are called ‘spherical’ mirror, since they form part of the surface of a sphere. it is important to remember which mirror curves in which direction.

Procedure

There is an odd shaped triangular piece which is actually three mirror in one piece. Use the light box to shine rays on the concave mirror and attempted to trace the rays. determine the focal point and the focal length of the  concave mirror. then repeat with the convex mirror. Just to recall what you saw last week. look, at the way that rays reflect from the plane mirror.

Difference Between Plane and Spherical Mirror

Plane mirror and Spherical mirror for this experiment our main objectives are to determine the number of image formed when plane mirrors are place  on a certain angle, described the image formed using plane and spherical mirrors and lastly to determine and compute the focal length of a spherical mirrors.
