  • Genital herpes

Genital herpes is a sexually transmitted disease (STD). There is no cure for this disease, but medications can help control the infection. Some people with genital herpes may have “breakouts” of sores in the genital and anal areas. (The genitals are the sexual or reproductive organs that are on the outside of the body.) The sores heal within a few weeks. Outbreaks can be triggered by stress, illness, extreme tiredness, or exposure to sunlight. Girls may have outbreaks when they have their menstrual period. The first outbreak is usually the most serious. Outbreaks usually become less severe over time.

  • HIV

HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) is a virus that attacks the immune system . The immune system is weakened, making it difficult for the body to fight infections and some types of cancers . Most people who are diagnosed early with this infection and who take anti-HIV drugs can lead long and fulfilling lives.

This can happen during sexual intercourse (particularly vaginal and anal) sharing needles to inject drugs or get tattoos. And getting stuck with a needle that contains blood from an infected person.  HIV can also be passed from mother to child during pregnancy, childbirth, or breastfeeding.

  • Trichomoniasis
